I know we took a vote on this at the meeting back in December. I think I got the date correct, just throwing it out there. I know it's not been posted here yet. But....., who's up for it? I'll be there.

I'll be there too. I think we should repeat the format of last year as I think it went really well. I'll volunteer to teach school of the soldiers, company and instructions for skirmishers. I could always use some assistance, though.!

Who do we register to?
What do the numbers look like?
How many attended last year?

I am interested in coming and would like to participate in some good company drill.

Maybe someone can answer my questions.

Holler is right, let's start talking this one up! Do we have a schedule in the works? Are we doing one scenario/impression or is it more of a "come as you are" gig? Is there a POC? The more people we get interested coming to a drill event, the better they are!

Thanks,
Eric

Don't Worry Guys Pogue's in Charge

We just had our Mess #3 meeting the other weekend and Terry, who was chosen as the POC at the ONV meeting, passed the torch of leadership to Pogue, yes I said pogue. I just talked to him and the schedule is nearly done, he just wanted to finish things up before he published it. But I will let him tell you the rest of the details.

Last year we had 20+ and had one heck of a time. Learned more at that one event then the rest of the year put together.

I don't know, Culvers is awfully far to get to from the Ryan House.

In all seriousness, I did talk to Poague tonight. Sounds like he has a sound plan going for this event, which he will share in the near future after a few more details are nailed down.

Poague sent me a e-mail a few days ago. I am looking forward to this. Funny that when I first started in 1991 we had monthly meetings and drill.

I took a few months off from the hobby. I needed some time away from organizing and thinking about other issues. I am ready to get the season going and cannot wait to see my friends.

Well after a few rounds of phone calls and a few e-mails we seem to have things squared away. We will be out at the Ryan Mansion 11373 West US 20 Galena IL April 17-18. Feel free to show up Friday night and get the party started.

There is no specific unit or regimental impression. We are not looking for a memorable moment or an immersion event. We are getting together to learn something new, brush up on our existing skills and also for the one reason we are all in this hobby to have a good time with our friends.

Bring a general Federal kit, a full haversack as no rations will be issued, 20 rounds of ammo, and dog tents with poles. If you have an A-tent that you want to have see the light of day feel free to bring it out. There is no registration fee or from to be concerned about. I would however appreciate an e-mail if you are planning on attending so we can get an idea on numbers.

The weekend will be filled with some of the following activities:
School of the Soldier featuring Scott's Hardee's and Casey's, bayonet, skirmish and battalion drill, School of the Company, information on sentinels, pickets and defensive patrols, lap dances, some pointers on Confederate uniforms, help with small unit offensive tactics and over coming obstacles, Schumann's song book, some how to's on engaging artillery and cavalry, helpful tips and tricks with researching at state archives and what are the NCOs’ responsibilities.

If any one has some thing they would like to share or if there is something that you want to know more about please feel free to drop me a line or give me a call.

Commanders must be just, if they are not just, they will lack dignity. If they lack dignity, they will lack charisma; and if they lack charisma, their soldiers will not face death for them. Therefore justice is the head of warriorship.
