Tornado / wind damage at Old World Wisconsin 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Hello everyone

As some of you know, or may have even expirienced, there was some severe weather that whipped up some tornados last night. The town of Eagle, where Old World Wisconsin is located, was hit pretty hard. There was some significant tree damamge and some structural damage at Old World. Here are a couple links to news articles with some pictures. The one that stands out the most is the airial view of the parking lot. The trees look like a pile of toothpicks.

How sad! Those pictures are just terrible. My dad spent 30 minutes in the basement because of this storm and Mary and I spent 30 minutes in the basement for another Tornado warning.

I saw the images and they were surrealistic. If it weren't for certain buildings and landmarks, I wouldn't have known where I was looking. Fortunately, the majority of the damage was to the trees and not the buildings. The Clausing Barn lost its cupola; the roof was damaged (I believe) on the Loomer Barn; and there was one other building that sustained roof damage. All-in-all, it could have been much worse and we should be thankful that no one was injured at OWW and that more structural damage didn't occur. I'm also glad the place was closed with the tornado hit. Could you imagine the damage had that parking lot been full of cars?

Thanks for bringing this up, Kris!

UPDATE via Facebook: None of the livestock was injured as a result of the storm. All animals were present and accounted for... plus one new calf!

How did the trams do through the storms. It would be a shame if anything happened to them . not

Unfortunately, I believe they were unscathed by the incident.

Donica saw some aerial footage on television of the damage at OWW, and the best way she could describe it was "that it looked like God took his hand and flattened all of the trees".

BTW, the image I attached shows the parking lot we used to park in. The Clausing Barn lost its cupola, and all of the trees in "the green" are now gone. The white building in the foreground is the Caudwell Farmer's Hall.

I guess nobody gets to park in the shade for quite a while now.

I'm doing a Civil War day camp there next month and I'll see if I can get more pictures from ground level.

I wish I could embed this:

This is aerial video footage from Chopper 4 (WTMJ Milwaukee) of Old World's damage.

It's stunning!

Dave,

What is that structure that we see from 1:04 to 1:20 in the video? It is completely destroyed.

Scott,

Dave probably knows better, but I believe that was a shed or lean too that was next to the Farmer's hall by the "back" entrance to the park (IE, the entrance we would typically take to walk in, as opposed to going through the gift shop.

Andy gets the cigar! The big white building in the foreground is Cauldwell Farmer's Hall, and as the camera pans up, you can see the Clausing Barn. So the destroyed structure was that open shed next to the hall that housed all the livestock babies. It must have been empty since OWW reports all animals were present at accounted for at roll call.

Michele Crew, an employee of Old World took several images of the damage. Until I obtain permission to repost them here, you can check them out on my Facebook Profile page.
