I finally have summarized my notes from the meeting. Please keep in mind these are just the main points discussed during the meeting. Please let me know if you have questions, etc.
This was followed by a nice lunch, then some excellent viewing of items in the WVM archive with Curator of Collections Bill Brewster.
Enjoy, and please discuss!
ONV Annual Meeting
12/5/09
Wisconsin Veterans Museum
Total of 22 ONV members were in attendance.
We began with a discussion of event quality, and the importance of attitude for all participants. It was decided to make a group effort to address any attitude problems that arise at events.
Discussion of new members: Mess groups should mentor new individuals.
Galvanization: There was a review of bylaws with regard to changing sides at events. This would need to be pre-approved by both field commanders before the event.
The passing of John Crabb was mentioned, and the idea to ‘pass the hat’ as a memorial.
ONV website should remain the main conduit of information, Facebook is another tool, but for more specialized use.
We had a more detailed review of the bylaws, including the idea that the steering committee arrange “An annual check to reestablish non active members”. Basically this will just allow for an annual cleanup of the ONV list.
2010 events: Primary events are LBL, Galena spring muster, Ft. Wayne, Blanchardville, Wilson’s Creek and Perryville. Other events of interest include Wilderness, Hogg’s Trial, and an event at Dan McGraw’s property in northeast Wisconsin.
Long range events include a 2nd Wis impression at Manassas National Battlefield in 2011. Also, there was talk of an event at the Lincoln Home in 2011. Finally, support of events at Fredericksburg and Antietam in 2012. One other proposal was an ONV hosted ‘national’ in 2012, in the vein of Bummers, in that the goal was to find units from all over to participate.
2010 Steering Committee:
Eric Fair, Dan Chmelar, Scott Gutzke, Jason Reinholz, Dave Gerow, Rob Gobtop, Nathan Hellwig, and Jeremy Bevard.
