If anyone is missing a tin cup, I have one that was left in camp.

Is there a AAR for Wauconda? 4 Years, 7 Months ago
For those of us who couldn't make it, how was it?

Steve,

All I can say is "It was Wauconda." Enjoyed hanging out with other ONVers. I went as ambulance corps, and took the jabs from those carrying muskets. I was glad to see the friendly faces, and was reminded why my last mainstream event was Wauconda in 2005. I don't know when my next mainstream event will be.

I had a good time at Wauconda, although for me any time spent in the saddle is a good time. It was a good chance for me to get more experience riding with packed saddles and full accoutraments, something the mainstream cavalry rairly does.I did go out to the "tacticle" because my unit went out and to say it was hoaky, even for a tacticle, would be an understatement. I did although enjoy the Saturday and Sunday battles; as we dismounted and fought on foot two or three times each day. Man, I love to dismount and fight on foot. In between the dismounted fighting they also used detachments of us as corriers for the infantry, which was a fun addition to the action for me.

It was great to see a good number of ONV guys again, even if it was from across the field.

Steve

Like Andy said "Its Wauconda", but all of us know what to expect when we go to local Mainstream events. Nevertheless, sometimes they are just a good excuse to don the jeanwool or kersey and hang out with good pards, which we did.

For me, the camp site, drill, and being in command of the best company there, I think we had an aggregate of 23 or 24 on Saturday, were the highlights. But I have to admit my bias since I picked the campsite and was Captain for the weekend.

The heat of course was a detractor but we were still able to get in 2 to 2 ½ hours worth of drill. We didn’t partake in the Saturday morning tactical, which I know you were all disappointed about.

I didn’t get to say goodbye to everyone but I want to say thanks to all the ONV members, Cornfeds and Mess #3, for falling in with the 2nd. It was a good experience for me to drill with and command a large size company.

Sincerely

It was nice meeting those onv members who I met, and the hospitality and comraderee was great. I really appreciate you putting up with me, and now I am motivated to get more involved in the hobby again.

Thanks Steve for encouraging me to go.
