Kenosha Thank You 4 Years, 7 Months ago
A big thank you to all who attended Kenosha this year. A successful event needs the contributions of many people, and there was no lack of people willing to help with this event. Both at the event, and behind the scenes, there were many who took ownership of some part of the event and helped it be successful.

Tom Klas: The driving force behind 2006, and the Gentleman who started the ball rolling for 2007.
Peggy Gregorski: The "face" of the Museum, who has worked to be as accomidating to the ONV as possible.
Dave Gerow: Both as our Captain, and at the planning meetings helped plan and coordinate many parts of the event. He also made sure the Sibley tent was available again.
Steve Acker: Helped at planning meetings, offered advice over the phone, and did a wonderful job as a Docent. In 1998 I attended an event as a spectator where Steve did a similar job interacting with the public in 3rd person, and shortly after that event I was hooked on the Civil War.
Lance Herdegen: Much help with planning, and for sharing your Park City Grays research.
Jason Reinholz: Help with planning, and organized the collection of foodstuffs so we could eat.
Mary Warren: Mary was the POC for the Citizen side of the event, and had alot of planning on her own end, along with coordinating some scenarios with the Militia.
Terry Sorchy: Thanks for both serving as Lt. again, and for bringing your large collection of cooking gear.
Kris Kransel: Thanks for your drill leadership, and putting up with the "green" recruits.
Karl Pasch: Karl, you certainly have a great talent at cooking in the field. Thank you again, and I hope we don't burn you out (no pun intended) on cooking too soon!
Rod Miller: You put on another great sunday service. Thank you.
Steve Ingram: Your services were in great demand, and I know many went home happy with the images they received.
John Wedeward: You made sure the water barrel was there, and that in itself helped keep everyone hydrated in the afternoon sun.
Tom Arliskas: Thanks for your article on last year's event that has appeared in the latest issue of Civil War Historian.
Jim Schumann: Jim put together our song books for Sunday, and took the time to find all the obscure verses for Yankee Doodle on Saturday.
Everyone who offered advice, suggestions, and support during the planning process.
Everyone who attended in 2006 and this year: Thanks for coming back, and expanding on your experiences from last year.
Everyone who attended in 2007 for the first time: Thank you for coming and making the group stronger.

To anyone left off this list, let me offer my apologies in advance, it's been a busy few days and anyone I may have forgotten is due to fatigue.

Post edited by: Andy_Ackeret, at: 2007/06/26 01:45

Andy & All,

Thanks to each of you for making this year's event memorable.

I was very concerned about bringing my boys to an event like this but really wanted to bring them . Thank you all so very much for your patience and grace that was extended to me and my sons. I can say without a doubt that you all were part of creating a lasting memory for my boys and I. I also want to give a big thanks to Jeremy & Sue who were helpful with some clothing issues and provided some other clothes when we had a blow out.

Some of the highlights in my book in no particular order.

- convincing the Kenosha rifles boys to jin up .
- Reinholz and his speech in which he ticks people off in the end.
- The Caps & Havelocks.
- Capt & Lt. and the interesting uniforms . Nice touch boys
- Photographer added a neat touch.
- Karl and the good cooking - I will get you that recipe when my wife digs it out .
- The Lake trout - and fishing stories that accopanied it. Nice job Brad.
- The Wide Awake Rally As i told many of you . I told my boys that they are the only kids in the country to be able to see this . I truely feel that I was part of something unique and special. I only wish I had known prior, I would have donned a cap & torch.
- The French Rail Shuffle.
- The shackles. Thanks for imprisoning one of my sons Terry.
- and last of all the comraderie. From both New friends and old ( Yes Steve that means you)

Thanks to all my pards in the Park City Grays

Rod,

It was on the schedule we were going to have a rally, but I didn't throw alot of information out, because I thought it would be fun and memorable for people to see the Wide Awakes march in. David Cassius McVean was the historical leader of the Kenosha Wide Awakes, and the apology he issued was historical as well.

I know I've heard others comment that they want to participate in the future with Wide Awake impressions. I think we will be able to put together an impressive group of Wide Awakes to march at some future event.

Thanks again to you Andy. And thanks to everyone else behind the scenes it was an enjoyable event.

As to Saturdays drill, I will have to say that some of you really put me thru the ringer. But just remember that whenever or wherever you do Baxter’s from now on the palm of your right hand is placed on your hip when doing an “about face”! Right fellas?

And all of you that were smoking in the ranks on Saturday, it’s been noted!

“The French Rail Shuffle”

Like I said Rod, it all works in my head! You just have to be there. I had visions of soldiers zigzagging along in my sleep.

Kris & others,

Oh to be in Kris' Head . Yeah I am too scared to think about it too.

I misspelled Fence Rail . I do not know what a French rail is but I am sure some of you imaginations will run with it.
