Black powder 5 Years, 3 Months ago
Hey Guys;

Anyone out there know of a source of black powder these days? Since I have been out of the hobby for about 8 years I no longer have any black powder and don't know where to buy any. I called around a few sporting good and outdoors type stores in the Madison area and all said they don't sell black powder and did'nt know where to get any.

Regards;

I do not know what they are charging, but I am thinking
if you call Lodgewood (in Whitewater) they would have
some, or if they did not would be able to tell you
who would. If you do go over there to pick some up,
I would caution you to call ahead and make an
appointment, as otherwise you might find nobody at
the store (they are there sometimes and sometimes
not, as their schedule dictates.)
The phone number is listed on the website.

Yes, I think I can finally answer a question as a new guy. Karl, I'm not sure how many people go here, but I too was looking for gun powder and came across this website: www.grafs.com

I believe they have what your looking for. However if other people disagree or have a better place, please let me know soon before I purchase through this website.

Hope this helps,

Karl,

I bought powder from Jon Blackert before and had good luck. His site is www.kfboom.com/. The site isn't too good but you can call/e-mail him and he'll get back to you very quickly. Okay prices and easy to deal with.

Guys;

Thanks for the ideas so far. It never dawned on me that I can order via the internet and have delivered to my house. Anyone know of any shooter supply stores in the Madison area that may carry some. I will give Lodgewood a call in the mean time.

Also, how does everyone feel about the musket caps by CCI? I bought a tin from Gander Mountain and to my pleasant surprise discovered that they are made of copper instead of brass.

Thanks again;

Are those the 6-wing caps? I've heard plenty of anecdotal stories about them fragmenting more often than the brass ones from Navy or the German ones with pieces flying into the next fellow in line. I've stuck with 4 wing due to the fragmentation stories. I don't know about powder, but you can definately get caps from Lodgewood.
